Exhibition overview

A new body of work by Anthony Lee

One Love presents a new body of work by Anthony Lee, an artist whose expansive practice spans painting, sculpture, printmaking and textiles. At the heart of the exhibition is a simple but powerful belief: that it only takes one person to love, encourage, or believe in you for extraordinary things to happen.

Featuring a major collection of original paintings alongside works in other media, One Love explores connection, resilience, identity and belonging. Lee’s work reflects a lifetime of creative experimentation and an instinctive ability to transform ideas, materials and experiences into compelling visual forms.

Moving between the personal and the universal, the exhibition celebrates the transformative power of human connection and the communities that shape us. In a fractured world, One Love offers a simple proposition: sometimes one love is enough.

Curatorial text

One person can change the course of a life

One Love reflects Anthony Lee’s belief that extraordinary things can begin with faith in a single person: the recognition that one individual can alter the course of a life, a career, a family, or a community.

For Lee, “one love” is not a romantic proposition but a social and cultural one. It speaks to encouragement, solidarity, mentorship and the invisible networks of support that sustain creative lives. It acknowledges that every artist’s journey is shaped not only by individual determination, but by those who choose to believe in them when the outcome remains uncertain.

Across painting, sculpture, textiles and assemblage, Lee has developed a reputation for transforming humble, discarded and overlooked materials into works of remarkable complexity and beauty. His creative history reveals exceptional dexterity and resourcefulness: an artist capable of turning his hand to almost any material or process. Through labour, intuition and invention, commonplace objects are elevated beyond their original purpose, transformed into works that possess both aesthetic presence and cultural resonance.

In this sense, Lee’s practice mirrors the central premise of the exhibition itself. Just as one person’s belief can unlock human potential, the artist’s attention can reveal hidden value within the material world. Objects that might otherwise be dismissed are reimagined and renewed. The act of making becomes one of recognition, transformation and care.

One Love also reflects the realities of contemporary urban tribalism. Communities are formed not solely through geography or bloodline, but through shared experiences, creative exchange, mutual support and cultural affinity. Lee’s works operate within these spaces of connection, drawing together diverse materials, histories and influences into forms that speak to collective identity while remaining deeply personal.

The exhibition celebrates resilience, ingenuity and the transformative possibilities that emerge when people invest belief in one another. Through works that are at once artefact, offering and cultural commentary, Lee reminds us that value often exists where others fail to look, and that the simplest act of encouragement can become the catalyst for profound change.

At its heart, One Love is an exhibition about potential: the potential contained within people, communities and materials alike. It is a testament to the enduring power of creativity to transform, elevate and connect.
